Freda Teen - What We Wished We Had Known.

As children, we didn’t have much information or guidance about what it meant to be a woman aside from magazines and tit bits of information handed down from us by our mothers and their friends that we were told to call aunts. As adults, we are now inundated with inspiration, motivation and proclamations of self love from everywhere and anywhere. We are told not just to care about our physical health but our mental health, told not just to heal our tired bodies but our hearts.

The thing is, our children are fed the opposite. Although there may be some brilliant platforms to inspire and motivate our children, the truth is very much the opposite. They are fed constant streams of information, keeping them on their phones as their self esteem drains as quickly as the phone’s battery.

There were so many things we wish we had known as girls that we now know as adults. We didn’t know about the power of mindfulness, we didn’t know what therapy was and we certainly were not thinking about the impact our lifestyles had on others’ around the world. We didn’t know that periods were a sign of health and were told to keep them as hidden as we could.

Freda, alongside a number of brilliant female owned businesses are turning those ideals on their heads this International Day of The Girl. We are in a position where our girls don’t have to grow up with the same ridiculous societal expectations as did and can hold onto real information about their bodies rather than the myths we were raised with.

International Day of the Girl is to celebrate everything a young woman can be and will be. For Freda, that means a girl free of stigma, shame and access when it comes to her period. Of course, we know our word can only go so far so we have teamed up with the Byte Squad, the house filled with the high profile TikTok Stars Shauni, Seb, Monty, KT Franklin, Lily Rose and SurfaceLDN. Not only is this the first time tiktokers are taking an active stance when it comes to social issues, but Seb and Monty are taking the lead on the project- highlighting that just because it’s Day of the Girl, doesn’t mean young men shouldn’t engage too.

Together with the Byte Squad, we have created Freda’s first Teen Period Care Box, combining Freda’s sustainable products with everything a girl needs to feel good on her period. Of course, we had to add some Byte Squad merch in there because where would our girls be without tiktok. Our goal with our launch is to show girls that their periods don’t have to be something they dread. It can be something they look forward to, all whilst saving the planet at the same time.
