Frequently Asked Questions
What are your tampons made of?
Our tampon manufacturers use 100% certified organic cotton and are sourced in Europe.
Freda tampons are hypoallergenic for sensitive skin, cruelty free, chemical free, fragrance free, pesticide free, polyester free and chlorine free.
Why organic cotton?
Non-organic cotton is sprayed heavily with toxic pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. The cotton carries the residue of these chemicals, which can be absorbed through the delicate and permeable vaginal tissue. Organic cotton is grown without chemical pesticides.
To find out more about the benefits of organic cotton, please visit our page on Why Organic.
How often should I change my tampon?
Freda recommends that you change your tampon every 4-8 hours.
Always use the lightest absorbency required for your flow.
Can I flush Freda tampons?
Although Freda tampons are biodegradable, you should not flush any period products as they can block the system.
Regular or Super absorbency?
Regular tampons absorb 6-9g of liquid and are suitable for those lighter days. Supers absorb 9-12g of liquid and are best for those days when your flow is particularly heavy.
Absorbencies are standardised globally.
Freda pads have the following lengths:
Regular: 22cm
Super: 25cm
Night: 30.5cm
Pantyliners: 14cm
Our regular, super and night pads are winged.
What are the features of Freda pads?
Why are Freda pads not 100% cotton?
Effective performance, comfort, and sustainability were key elements in our development of Freda pads.
At present 100% cotton pads do not have the same level of absorbency as the non-cotton. Our “eco” pads and liners are made with over 70% renewable materials compared with 30% industry standard. Our pads are made without fragrances, deodorants and artificial dyes, all cellulose used is totally chlorine free and pads have a starch-based biofilm back sheet.
Freda pads are hypoallergenic for sensitive skin, contain minimal use of PE, cruelty free, chemical free, fragrance free, pesticide free, polyester free, chlorine free, rayon free.
Super Absorbent Polymers, or hydrogels, are used in most pads and nappies to provide an ultra-absorbent inner core, which turns liquids into gel. SAPs are currently the most effective and safe way to quickly absorb and lock away liquids, keeping skin dry and preventing infection and the bacteria that produce odors. Hydrogels have been extensively tested and have also been proven to be safe for use in baby care products.
We use Hydrogels in our Bladder Care pads to guarantee that they can be confidently used for both periods and bladder incontinence. At present, the hydrogels found on the market are not biodegradable; however, after careful consideration we have concluded that they are still the most environmentally friendly choice whilst ensuring that our customers receive a high-quality and dependable product. By using hydrogels, we can reduce the overall bulk of our product, meaning that it is both comfortably thinner for you to use and, importantly, uses less raw materials (such as wood pulp and cotton) that end up in landfill.
What are Super Absorbent Polymers (SAP), and do you use them?
