Pad Donations for Afghan Asylum Seekers
Like so many people, we’ve been feeling helpless whilst watching events unfold in Afghanistan with devastating consequences particularly for women and girls. I came across a tweet from Afzal Khan MP asking for donations for the arriving asylum seekers from Afghanistan. Sadly, period products are overlooked in times of crisis. We got in touch and offered Freda products.
Care4Calais are currently one of the charities looking after the arriving Afghan refugees in Manchester. They have received many generous donations of all kinds but women’s essential needs are usually forgotten in times of need.
There are currently 500 women and girls in Rochdale, expected to rise to 3000 over the year. That’s one pack of 20 pads per woman per month.
We set up a donation page on Sunday where anyone can help us provide those essential items at cost. We wish Freda could provide the pads without any donations but we’re are a small startup - 3000 women, each needing a pack of 20 pads every month, we just can’t manage.
If you are in a position to donate or raise awareness of this need, we’d be grateful.
So many of you have kindly donated already. We are very grateful. The first delivery will be made end of this week. We will keep you updated.
Your pad contribution will go a long way in meeting this demand. As a small startup we are unable to meet this demand without your contribution. If you would like to help provide Afghan refugees with period care please considering donating £15 - this will provide 100 pads and cover postage, packing and delivery.
